Assistant Professor

Matt Ferkany is Assistant Professor in the departments of Philosophy (75%) and Teacher Education (25%) and affiliated faculty of the Environmental Science and Policy Program at Michigan State University. His teaching and scholarship focus on normative ethical problems relating to moral education, well-being and virtue and environmental ethics and education. He is especially interested in the relationship between virtue, moral principles, and our good, and what that means for how we can learn to be or become good people, especially in our relationship to the natural environment. Ferkany?s work has been funded by the Spencer Foundation and published in journals such as Pacific Philosophical QuarterlyEnvironmental Values, Journal of Philosophy of Education, Educational Theory, and Theory and Research in Education.
