Education & Research Interests

John Grey received his Ph.D. from Boston University. He specializes in the history of modern philosophy, and his research examines the systematic attempts of various early modern authors to provide metaphysical foundations for psychology, ethics, and politics. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on these issues, focusing particularly on the work of Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677) and Anne Finch Conway (1631-1679). For more information about Dr. Grey’s research and teaching, see his website.

Dr. Grey received the 2018 Sanders Prize in Early Modern Philosophy for his forthcoming article, “The Metaphysics of Natural Right in Spinoza.”
