Reese Haller is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Philosophy at Michigan State University where they are a University Distinguished Fellow. Reese’s research concentrates on the intersections of social and political philosophy (esp. Marx and Critical Theory), Environmental Philosophy (esp. climate change and environmental justice), and Africana Philosophy (esp. U.S. Black politics and anti-colonialism). Reese has studied the intellectual history of the Illinois Black Panther Party, particularly the philosophical dimensions of Fred Hampton’s concepts of spiritual life, political education, and the category of race. In their dissertation project, Reese examines Black leadership in the Environmental Justice Movement to develop a philosophy of international ecological politics for redressing the entanglement of environmental racism with anthropogenic harms to the Earth system.
